I've been planning out ideas to re-imagine Shatterhand for a few years now since I love the game so much, but I could never find too much time to sketch them out as I've been rewriting the whole story from scratch which I've only gotten back into recently. So far, I really love what you have done so far, being a personal project. If you decide to continue, I would love to one day assemble a team to recreate the game. Hit me up if you're ever interested.
I'd have to get in touch with Natsume since they developed the game. I imagine they would give it up since the game didn't take off into its own series and the company focuses on Harvest Moon games these days. However, I am able to obtain the trademark of it since Jaleco (original publisher) closed its doors in 2009. I actually got in touch with the individual who originally registered the trademark, Kenneth Port. I also might have an intellectual property lawyer for this game, George Kobayashi, whom I was referred to. I was told by Port that it's possible no one succeeded Jaleco's assets, so for the trademark, we are good. I just need to come up with the money to register it. As for the IP itself, I still need to talk to a few people and the license for the project will be good.
If I manage to obtain the Shatterhand IP, I probably won't go after the Solbrain character mainly because of licensing issues with Toei whom owns the character. Maybe it will be possible as an unlockable character.
SolBraver I think it was. I'm planning to start rewriting the whole plot of Shatterhand next week rather than going with the story the game manual provides. I'm aiming towards a Metal Gear Solid-like story.

ReplyDeleteWhen doing area 3, would you use JP one or US one? Music is better in JP version and Area 3 is better than Area C.
If you consider fundraising, I can invest on this project. Is it going to be for PC?
